Dirt Roads...and Gerties!

I felt like I was in an old episode of the TV show Bonanza!  Dawson City still has the look and feel of a wild-west town.  Restoration and maintenance of numerous gold rush buildings and at least one mining complex is being carried out by Parks Canada.  The only paved street is Front Street located right along the Yukon River.  Notice the different colors of the water....as it takes a while for the thick silt to mix with the river water.....thus, causing one side to be darker than the other.

I spent the afternoon roaming the gravel streets and checking out all the historic buildings and stores.  Jenesa went on another paddle-wheeler down the Yukon with the rest of the tour group.  I'm pretty much "toured out" at this point....and I needed the day to wander on my own (and at my own pace!).

We've been waiting all day to go to Diamond Tooth Gertie's - the oldest gambling hall in Canada.  With three can-can shows that get more and more risqué as the night progresses, and a sassy powerhouse vocalist known as Diamond Tooth Gertie leading the show, it's quite an entertaining place to spend an evening. And if that’s not enough for you, try your luck at Blackjack, Texas Hold’em poker, roulette or one of our many slot machines.
