Everything Except A Whitehorse

Well, our trip is slowly (I emphasize slowly) winding down these past few days.  We've definitely had our fun and adventure throughout Alaska.....and, now, through the Canadian Yukon we're getting our "history" and "culture".  I think if I see another paddle-wheeler or hear another story about the Klondike gold rush I'm going to scream!

On our last day in the Yukon....we had planned to hike down to the Yukon Brewing Company.  A one hour walk was certainly not going to deter Jenesa (only food and beer motivate my wife this much!).  She has been collecting t-shirts from all the breweries and pubs we've visited.....so this would complete her collection on this trip.

Unfortunately, after walking across town to find this place.....a t-shirt is all we got!  It turned out that this brewery did not sell its beer at this location.  It only provided tours of the brewery and operated as a gift shop.  What?  So we hiked it back to the nearest trolley pick-up....and took in the scenic ride back to downtown Whitehorse.

Whitehorse is not a big place (especially for a capital city).  It has one main street with shops and some restaurants.  It has a nice Visitor's Center and local park.  It does have a Wal Mart!  Whitehorse is also home to the world's largest weather vane (see the picture below).  We hiked all over this place....but not once did we see a single white horse in Whitehorse.  Hmmmm....

This Douglas DC-3 is the World's Largest Weathervane.  Placed on a specially engineered pedestal in 1981, the plane truly does slowly and silently pivot and move with the breeze (it only takes a 5 knot wind to turn her), so that her nose is always pointing into the wind as if in a perpetual, never-ending flight.
